He was baptised at Hutton on the 21st February 1806.
In 1841 & 1851 he was living with his wife and daughter, Alice, at Cessford, Eckford, ROX. In 1841 a Janet Blackball, aged 70, was with them (? Janet's mother?) and in 1851 John was an ag lab.
They were in Ontario, Canada in 1861. In 1871 he was a farmer in Derby, Grey North, Ontario. The 1861 Canadian Census shows that they were married in 1832. John was described as being a farmer in both returns.
John died, aged 72, in Bruce Co Ontario in March 1879, yeoman (Ancestry has German). The informant was an A FAIRBAIRN, farmer of Derby - which I assume was Alexander. The cause of death was cancer in the bladder. John was a Presbyterian.
