PONTIAC - Margaret M. "Peg" Spalding, 91, Pontiac, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday (July 24, 2012) at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Pontiac. The Rev. Scott Vandenheuvel will officiate. Burial will follow service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Pontiac. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service Thursday at the church. Calvert & Martin Funeral Home, Pontiac, is handling arrangements for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Pontiac, or the Pontiac Public Library.
Peg was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Stanley, N.D., a daughter of the Rev. A. Brabson and Pearl Grieve Morrow. She married Gale Spalding in October 1948. He preceded her in death May 21, 1956.
Surviving are one son, John (Marian) Spalding, Hendersonville, Tenn.; two daughters, Martha Spalding, Chicago, and Lucy (Thomas) Gerlach, Evergreen, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
As a young woman, Peg worked for a Peoria radio station. During World War II, she worked for U.S. Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C. After the war, she was a producer/director for NBC television in Chicago, where she also sang with the Wayne King Orchestra.

After the death of her husband, she returned to Pontiac, where her father was pastor of the Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years. She worked for the American Lung Association before moving to Printing Craftsman, where she was the founding editor of the Magazine of Livingston County, where she took a picture of a local man standing on his head in a tree that was later published in Life Magazine.

She was a legal secretary for Adsit, Thompson, Strock and Strong in Pontiac for many years, and then worked for Dargan Insurance until her retirement. After retirement, she worked for Louis Lyons Real Estate for 20 years. She also worked for Pontiac Public Library.

Peg was the first female member and the first female president of the Pontiac Kiwanis Club. She was active in Vermilion Players Community Theater and was on the founding committee for the Livingston County War Museum.

She was a lifelong member of Pontiac First Presbyterian Church and was well-known in the community for her portrayals of historic women, such as Susan B. Anthony. She also wrote and performed the "Miss Margaret" radio program for WPOK Radio in Pontiac, and had a children's poem published in Jack and Jill magazine.
