  General Notes:

He immigrated to Ipswich, Massachusetts Bay Colony and took the oath of freeman 28 Feb 1642 at the 2d Session of Salem Court in Salem, MA.

He married Susan Payne 1645-1646 in Ipswich, Essex, MA

In 1646, he purchased several utensils at an auction sale of the estate of Michael Carthrick for 17s at Ipswich.

In 1647, he possessed land at Ipswich adjoining on the west a grant to his father-in-law, William Payne.

He moved to Hashamomack, Southhold, Suffolk, NY before June 1653.

He purchased a house and land 4 Jun 1653 for 20 pounds from Steven Goodyear of New Haven.

In 1657, he was appraiser of the estate of William Salmon, along with William Wells and Barnabus Wines Sr.

In 1659 he moved to Setauket (Brookhaven), NY.

At a town meeting on 1 Dec 1659 at Setauket, a "home lot" was made over to John "Chachum."

1661 he was granted a 6 acre lot in the Old Field and a 4 acre lot in Setauket. He was elected Constable the same year.

29 Sep 1666 John and Susan Payne sold their place at Southold, New York to Thomas Moore, Sr.

He was named "Patentee of Huntington" on 30 Nov 1666.

1668 He had moved to Newtown, Queens Co., New York.

There he was elected Constable in April 1669 and served as Overseer with Robert Field between April 1672 - Aug. 1673 and again in Nov. 1674-1675.

He was elected town clerk in 1675.

John's wife, Susan, died before 1676 at Newtown, Queens Co., New York.

John and Bethia Richardson, daughter of John Richardson and Martha Mead, obtained a marriage license on 26 Feb 1676/1677 at New York, and they were married 14 Mar 1676/1677 at West Farms, Westchester Co., New York.

On 17 May 1697 John Ketcham's will was probated and letters of administration granted to widow Bethiah.
