General Notes: WALTER DE LINDSAY, Lord of Lamberton, Molesworth, etc., Sheriff of Berwickshire, and Justiciar of Lothian, inherited a vast property in Lancashire and Westmoreland (including most of what is known as the Lake District), in right of his mother, and paid a fine of two marks of gold to be respited from taking knighthood against his will, and he further delayed it to make a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James. He was sixteen years old, 31 Henry in. He granted a charter of liberties to the burgh of Warton in Lancashire, had licence to make a pilgrimage to Spain 1260, and was ambassador to England 1265. His wife's name was Christian, who was married, secondly, in Scotland, to Walter de Percy of Kildale, as attested by King Alexander in. 23 September 1274. This great baron died on All Souls' Day 1271, leaving issue: Walter married Christiana HOSE [8057] [MRIN: 5827], daughter of John HOSE [8068] and Mrs. John HOSE [8069], in 1249 in Lamberton, Berwickshire, Scotland.795 (Christiana HOSE [8057] was born about 1230 in Lamberton, Mordington, Berwickshire, Scotland 1912 and died after 14 June 1275 in Craigie, , Ayrshire, Scotland 1912.) |
