His body was taken to Fontevraud, along with his crown, where he was buried at his father's feet.
His heart was taken to Rouen, to be interred next to his brother Henry.
Noted events in his life were:
1. Title of Nobility: King of England, between 13 September 1189 and 1199, in , , , England. Richard was crowned on Sunday, September 13, 1189, in Westminster Abbey.
2. Captivity: Between February 1193 and 4 February 1194. In Febuary 1193, Leopold, duke of Austria, after having Richard arrested, sold him to Emperor Henry VI.
On February 4, 1194, Richard was released. He paid one hundred thousand marks for his freedom, gave hostages (icnlduing the archbishop of Rouen and two of Henry duke of Saxony's son's) as guarantee for fifty thousand more, and was persuaded by his mother to submit to a piece of ungentlemanly brinksmanship from Henry VI, who later in negotiations demanded that Richard release the English Crown to the emperor and promised he would then grat it back to him as a vassal of the empire.
