General Notes:
Elizabeth married Adam Gordon, possibly in about 1380.
They had two children: Elizabeth, who married Alexander Seton
another daughter who died young
In 1401 Elizabeth became the heir of her brother Robert. She also became sole heiress of her grandmother Margaret Fraser.
Adam died on 14 September 1402 in the Battle of Homildon Hill.
Elizabeth married Thomas Somerville. Because they were related within the normally forbidden degrees of consanguinity, a papal dispensation for the marriage was given on 2 November 1411.
In 1431 she and her second husband enfeoffed their cousin Alexander Forbes with various lands.
Elizabeth died in about 1436.
Research Notes Notes by Michael Cayley, 21 June 2021 The Scots Peerage says there is doubt about who Elizabeth's parents were, and opts for William Keith, Marischal of Scotland, and Margaret Fraser. Richardson names her parents as John Keith and Jean Stewart, and says that William Keith and Margaret Fraser were her paternal grandparents. Another volume of the Scots peerage identifies William Keith as father of John Keith, who is shown here on WikiTree as Elizabeth's father. Medlands follows Richardson on Elizabeth's parentage. Both Richardson and Medlands cite a chapter contributed by Andrew MacEwen to a 1989 genealogical book. I have not been able to consult this, but it would appear that the views of John Balfour Paul in The Scots Peerage have been overtaken by subsequent research which has established that The Scots Peerage has missed out a generation. See also the addenda and corrigenda Andrew MacEwen published in 2011, which also describes Elizabeth as granddaughter of William Keith and Margaret Fraser, and as sole heir of Margaret's lands.
The Scots Peerage also states that, between her marriages to Adam Gordon and Thomas Somerville, Elizabeth married Sir Nicholas Erskine of Kinnoull. Richardson describes the interpolation of this marriage as erroneous, and states that her first husband's mother married Nicholas Erskine of Kinoull as her second husband. Richardson's source is probably Andrew MacEwen's work.
The Scots Peerage also ascribes a son John to Elizabeth and her first husband. An Elizabeth Gordon, "the spouse qwilum" of Nicholas Erskine, is said to have let lands to her son John. This may well be a different Elizabeth Gordon; there is a profile at Keith-1986 for an Elizabeth wife of Nicholas Erskine, and she is shown as the paternal aunt of the Elizabeth (LNAB Keith) of this profile. Again, the MacEwen chapter in the 1989 book may help to confirm this. __________________________________________________ Lady Elizabeth Keith of Aboyne, daughter of Sir William Keith, 2nd Lord Marischal of Scotland, and Margaret Fraser, Heiress of Touchfraser Born about 1361 in Aboyne and Cluny, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and died 16 March 1436 in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
