Wikipedia:
Bernard or Bernhard of Saint Quentin (of Herstal), (c. 720-787), Abbot of St. Quentin was a son of Charles Martel by his mistress Ruodhaid. He was thus a half brother of the Frankish King Pepin the Short, and uncle to Emperor Charlemagne. He is an obscure figure, rising out of the mists only to lead half of the Frankish army in his nephew Charlemagne's Lombard campaign. While Charlemagne led his contingent through the pass of Moncenisio, Bernard led his through the Great St. Bernard Pass.
Bernard was prominent in the reign of Charlemagne's son Louis the Pious:
His first wife of Franconian origin, whose name is unknown, gave him a son: 1 Adalard (approx. 752 † January 2, 826), Missus dominicus, count of Charlemagne's palace and abbot of Corbie.
His second wife of Saxon origin, whose name is unknown, gave him four children: 1 Wala (v. 772 † August 31, 836), abbot of Corbie 2 Gundrade († after 814), virgin and nun 3 Bernhard (c. 776 † after. 821), monk at Corbie Abbey in 801. 4 Théodrada, abbess of Notre-Dame de Soissons after her marriage and mother of a daughter Imme, who succeeded her then as abbess.
